Full instructions on restoring from an iCloud backup may be found <a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/HT201269\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Transfer content from an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to a new device<\/a>.<\/div>\n<div id=\"sections\">\n<section id=\"top\" class=\"\">\n<h2><\/h2>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"\"><\/section>\n<section id=\"itunes\" class=\"\">\n<h2>Use iTunes<\/h2>\n<p>Back up your current device using iTunes. Then you can transfer the backup to your new device.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"callout\">If you don&#8217;t encrypt your iTunes backup, Health and Activity data from your iOS device or Apple Watch won&#8217;t be saved.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section id=\"encrypt\" class=\"\">\n<h2>Make an iTunes backup of your current device<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Connect your device to your computer.<\/li>\n<li>Open iTunes and make sure you have the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.apple.com\/itunes\/download\/\">latest version<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/kb\/HT203060\">Select your device<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Save content that you downloaded from the iTunes Store or App Store: Click File &gt; Devices &gt; Transfer Purchases. Then wait for the transfer to finish.<\/li>\n<li>If you want to save Health and Activity data from your iOS device or Apple Watch, you\u2019ll need to encrypt your backup: Select the box called Encrypt [device] backup and make a memorable password.<span class=\"callout\">Write down your password and store it somewhere safe, because there&#8217;s no way to recover your iTunes backups without this password.<\/span>If you don&#8217;t need to save Health and Activity data, you can make a backup that isn&#8217;t encrypted. Just click Back Up Now.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/library\/content\/dam\/edam\/applecare\/images\/en_US\/iOS\/itunes-yosemite-encrypt-iphone-backup.jpg\" alt=\" \" width=\"700\" data-hires=\"true\" \/><\/li>\n<li>After the process completes, make sure that your backup finished successfully in iTunes Preferences &gt; Devices. You should see the name of your device, along with the date and time that iTunes created the backup. If you encrypted your backup, you should also see\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/library\/content\/dam\/edam\/applecare\/images\/en_US\/il\/lock_inline_icon.png\" alt=\" \" data-hires=\"true\" \/>\u00a0beside the name of your device.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/library\/content\/dam\/edam\/applecare\/images\/en_US\/iOS\/itunes-yosemite-device-preferences.png\" alt=\" \" width=\"500\" data-hires=\"true\" \/><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/section>\n<section id=\"SIM\" class=\"\">\n<h2><\/h2>\n<p>Transfer your iTunes backup\u00a0to a new device.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"wrap\">\n<h2><\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/library\/content\/dam\/edam\/applecare\/images\/en_US\/iOS\/iphone6-ios9-setup-iphone-new-restore-icloud-itunes.jpg\" alt=\" \" width=\"320\" data-hires=\"true\" \/><\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section id=\"itunesTransfer\" class=\"\">\n<h2>Transfer the iTunes backup to your new device<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Turn on your new device. A &#8220;Hello&#8221; screen should appear.\u00a0If you&#8217;ve finished setting up your new device already,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/HT201269#erase\">learn what to do<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Swipe left to right on the &#8220;Hello&#8221; screen and follow steps until you see the Wi-Fi screen.<\/li>\n<li>Connect your iOS device to the computer that you stored your iTunes backup on.<\/li>\n<li>On the Wi-Fi screen on your iOS device, tap Connect to iTunes.<\/li>\n<li>Follow onscreen steps until you see the Apps &amp; Data screen, then tap\u00a0Restore from iTunes Backup &gt; next.<\/li>\n<li>Enter your Apple ID and password.<\/li>\n<li>Choose a backup. Make sure it&#8217;s the right one by looking at the date and size of each.\u00a0After you choose, the transfer starts.<\/li>\n<li>If you&#8217;re restoring from an encrypted backup, enter the password when asked.<\/li>\n<li>Wait for the process to complete. Then finish the remaining setup\u00a0steps\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/HT201269#itunesSync\">sync your other content<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"\">\n<\/section>\n<section id=\"itunesSync\" class=\"\">\n<h2>Finish up<\/h2>\n<p>Keep your device connected to your computer and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/kb\/HT201253\">use iTunes to sync any content<\/a>\u00a0that wasn&#8217;t in the backup. If possible, keep your device connected to Wi-Fi and plugged in to power until your cloud content downloads to your device.\u00a0Cloud content includes anything stored in the cloud instead of your backup,\u00a0like photos and music. This content will download automatically in the background. Depending on the amount of content, this could take a few hours or days to finish.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section id=\"erase\" class=\"\">\n<h2>Transfer a backup to a device that you&#8217;ve already set up<\/h2>\n<p>To transfer a backup to a device you&#8217;ve already set up,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/kb\/HT204686\">you need to erase the device<\/a>:\u00a0Tap Settings &gt; General &gt; Reset &gt; Erase All Content and Settings.\u00a0This will erase any data that&#8217;s currently on your device.\u00a0After you&#8217;ve erased it, your device will restart and you&#8217;ll see the &#8220;Hello&#8221; screen.
